Moderators announced for GroupBy 2020

GroupBy 2020 is bringing two days of virtual database training by the community, for the community. With many in-person events postponed or canceled this year, we’re looking to create a place for the SQL Community to be together and learn some new skills. GroupBy is very special to us. It’s as much about having fun and being social as it is a training event. We want to use the GroupBy platform to fill people up, and the moderators play a big role. We’d like to announce Eugene and Brent as the North American moderators: and Daniel, William and Ben as the European moderators. Their bios are below. We want to thank them so much for volunteering their time.

This GroupBy features a day in European time zones on May 12th and in the Americas on May 13.

European Sessions – May 12

William DurkinDataMasterminds

William runs the Data Grillen conference, which was cancelled this year. We were so sad that there will be no SQLBBQ, but we’re hoping he’ll continue the tradition of consuming large about of beer while heckling speakersHe’s also a SQL Server expert, Microsoft MVP, database developer, database administrator and system architect. He regularly speaks at IT conferences and runs Data Masterminds.

Benjamin WeissmanSolisyon

Ben also runs Data Grillen. He’s a seasoned speaker and grill master and has the best SQL Swag. Ben is an MCSE Data Management and Analytics, MPP Big Data, MPP AI and MPP Data Science and is also the first BimlHero Certified Expert in Germany, a co-author of “SQL Server Big Data Clusters” and “The Biml Book”, and a Certified Data Vault Data Modeler. He also swears he knows a joke or two. We’ll hold him to that.

Daniel HutmacherStructured Concepts AB

We’re happy to have Daniel on board as part of the organizing committee for GroupBy 2020. He also brings his enthusiasm to organizing SQL Saturdays Stockholm and writing SQLSunday.com. Daniel has been a data warehouse and BI developer on the SQL Server platform for almost 20 years, specializing in performance optimization.

Americas Sessions – May 13

Eugene MeidingerSQLGene Training

Eugene is a member of the GroupBy organizing committee and will be returning as a moderator for this year’s event. He brings a wealth of experience as a Power BI Consultant and Pluralsight author. Welcome back, Eugene!

Brent OzarBrent Ozar Unlimited

He’s back. We’re pumped. First time in four years, peoplethis is going to be great. As a Microsoft Certified Master and founder of GroupBy, he has helped bring this unique virtual event to life, and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him hosting this year’s Americas sessions.

What is GroupBy?

  • GroupBy is a free, community-driven online conference, and anyone can submit a session abstract!
Those abstracts are then voted on, and the top-voted sessions are presented at a full-day webinar conference.
  • The sessions are moderated by members of the SQL Server community, in order to help presenters out and to allow viewers to ask questions via Twitter or Slack.
  • All of the sessions are recorded, transcribed and published so you can re-watch them on video or listen to them as podcasts later on.

Want to contribute? We want speakers like you!

Interested in hosting a session on May 12 or 13? Submissions are now open for GroupBy 2020, so submit your session idea before April 6!

This year, the submission process will be a little different. We’ll be using the Sessionize Call for Speakers platform for GroupBy: Europe and GroupBy: Americas. We hope this new process will make submissions quicker and easier for our speakers – do let us know about your experience and if you have any feedback that could help us further improve the process.
